The Subwing was invented by an 18-year-old Swedish teenager, Simon Sivertsen in 2010 while circumnavigating the globe with his father and brother on a small yacht. While diving in the Mediterranea, the clarity and beautiful blue of these waters made such an impression on Simon, he had the strong sensation that he was flying, underwater.
This is the moment the idea of a Subwing was born, he had a brainwave. He quickly slapped a few pieces of driftwood together to make a primitive wing and convinced someone to tow him behind their boat. Surprisingly the idea worked really well. He knew he was onto something.
Cutting short the yachting expedition he headed straight back home to Sweden to work on this idea of an underwater towable wing. Undeterred and braving the cold Swedish waters with a few bands of ducktape around his ears he diligently tested and perfected the Subwing. His passion, determination and business sense speak for itself.
10 Years later and the Subwing has won multiple prestigious awards for innovation and design. Young Simon turned his idea into a well established and successful global brand that has created an entirely new watersport that is hugely popular around the world. Just take a look at all the stunning Subwing video footage on YouTube from waters around the world of Subwing riders enjoying the experience of flying underwater.
Hey, the Subwing was even featured in an episode of Keeping Up with The Kardashians, so it’s gotta be cool right (tongue in cheek and eyes rolling back). Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian enjoyed a Subwing session while vacationing at the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean where they were taken out by a watersports operator for the day while filming.
For thrill-seekers, you can enjoy the freedom of doing barrel rolls, flying inverted, moving handstands and experience that flying sensation as you glide underwater. The beauty of it all, the Subwing is suitable for young and old, and it is quick and easy to learn. Oh, and you do not need a powerful motorboat to enjoy this new watersport. If you have a boat or anything in fact that floats that can reach up to 4 knots, you are good to go for a Subwing Session.
What excites us most here at Wakealot is that we finally have a towable watersport that the whole family can enjoy behind the boat. Now Mom and Dad can also take part and have fun behind the boat. Unlike towable tubes, wakeboarding or waterskiing, which is limited to just the young and fit having fun. The Subwing operates best at speeds between 2 – 4 knots. There is very little to no strain on the body, young and old can now enjoy this amazing new watersport. Mom, if you are worried about your hair, you now have no excuse. No need to dive underwater; you can have just as much fun gliding on the surface. The Subwing allows you to dive deep and discover a whole new underwater world where you can enjoy the sights of underwater marine life from a new perspective.
